Of the many recent advances in cosmetic dentistry, one of the most popular is porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers offer dental patients a minimally invasive solution to many dental problems and are often recommended as part of a “smile makeover”.
Dr. Andrew Cobb, a cosmetic dentist in Washington, DC, has extensive education and experience in all areas of cosmetic dentistry, including the placement of porcelain veneers. Dr. Cobb practices complete dentistry, as taught at the prestigious Dawson Academy where he is currently a faculty member: complete dentistry is founded on the belief that proper and accurate diagnosis combined with thorough treatment planning is the key to long term success.
Dr. Cobb takes the time necessary with each patient to fully evaluate their oral health and understand their personal goals before creating a personalized treatment plan. When considering using porcelain veneers as part of a treatment for a dental problem or a smile makeover, Dr. Cobb uses a Smile Design process – these four steps are important in providing beautiful, comfortable and long lasting results:
–comprehensive evaluation: an evaluation of the entire occlusal system to determine the possible causes(s) of any dental problems and to understand a patient’s oral health condition;
–digital imaging and models: Dr. Cobb will use 2 and 3-D digital image modeling to plan and visualize the treatment and outcome;
–tooth prep and temporaries: the tooth surface will be prepared, removing only as much of the surface as necessary for the placement of the veneers. Dr. Cobb will attach a temporary resin veneer while the custom porcelain veneers are created by a dental lab;
–final placement of the porcelain veneers: once completed, the final, custom made restorations will be permanently bonded to the tooth by Dr. Cobb.
Porcelain veneers are made to provide years of comfortable, durable wear with proper oral hygiene, including regular visits to Dr. Cobb for dental cleanings and preventive care.
