A smile makeover isn’t just about creating a beautiful smile. For Washington D.C. cosmetic dentist Andrew Cobb, a smile makeover is a carefully designed, comfortable, natural looking smile that will last a lifetime.
Often times cosmetic dental concerns are caused by an underlying functional problem in the mouth or occlusion (bite). Dr. Cobb is more than just a cosmetic dentist and strives to correct any health or functional problems in addition to cosmetic concerns to ensure problems won’t recur after treatment.
Whether you’re looking for a subtle change or a dramatic makeover, Dr. Cobb will plan your smile makeover to enhance your face and look as though it has always been there.

Smile Design Process
Dr. Cobb takes a comprehensive approach to smile design. There is a basic four-step process Dr. Cobb follows for any type of dental restoration to ensure the best results for the individual.
Step 1 – Comprehensive Evaluation
The first step in smile design is a comprehensive evaluation. Dr. Cobb carefully inspects the teeth, gums, mouth, jaw joints and muscles, looking for signs of decay, stress, or instability. It is important to correct any health or functional problems prior to having cosmetic dentistry because those same problems are likely to recur if they are simply masked with dental work.
Dr. Cobb takes into consideration your facial appearance when performing a smile makeover to ensure the cosmetic changes will be natural looking, Dr. Cobb considers factors like symmetry, size of the lips and mouth, skin tone and texture.
Step 2 – Treatment Planning
Dr. Cobb has incorporated state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment into his Washington D.C. dental office, including bite analysis technology, digital dental x-rays and digital impressions.
Dr. Cobb will create a 2-D and 3-D models to test and demonstrate the proposed changes of the smile makeover. Having an image that the dentist and patient can see at the same time is very helpful in communication and allows the patient to have input in the final result.
Step 3 – Preparation and Prototype
Once the planning is complete and both the dentist and patient have agreed on the treatment course, Dr. Cobb will prepare the teeth and mouth for the restoration and create provisionals which will protect the teeth while the final restorations are being made and give the patient an opportunity to “try on” their new smile.
Dr. Cobb is extremely conservative in his preparation of teeth, striving to maintain as much natural tooth structure as possible.
Step 4 – Smile Makeover
The final restoration, whether it is a dental crown, porcelain veneer or dental bridge, will be created at a state-of-the-art dental laboratory to Dr. Cobb’s exact specifications using the 2-D and 3-D modeling as well as molds of the prepared teeth and molds of the provisional restorations.
Because of this comprehensive smile design process, the application of the final restoration is not a guess, but a predictable result that feels comfortable, looks natural, and functions optimally. While minor adjustments may be needed, overall, the last step is a very simple and easy visit.
